I started looking for information on my dad's dad about 10 years ago. First just conversations with family, a few people here and there. But no one really knew anything about the guy. So I started digging.
I got a little ways down, got stuck and got distracted.
But a few weeks ago I mentioned my stuckedness in a slightly off topic post on a forum that I belong to. I got a message from another member asking for a name. I had no idea what I was starting by sending that name out into the world again.

Perhaps not the matriarch, I have taken on the role of collector and chronicler.
I love the puzzle of genealogical research. It may seem like an endless list of ancient dates and repeated names, but there is more to this than inscriptions on grave stones.
It's the seemingly inexplicable name changes as a family emigrates, and the dates that migrate with them, and the same scrolling script that gives a different place of birth on each document. But these are not errors. There are motivations for the inconsistencies. The blurry old papers may never fully tell the tale. They don't have to. That's what I'm here for.
And while the shifting dates of birth and death and the misspellings of names make the puzzle that much more complex, finding the correct date of birth is not so important as finding out that someone was born.
